This is, of course misleading and is maybe a bit click-baity for some, repulsing to others.
What stands behind that? Well, on my journey along, and diving deep into, voids, chasms, roads, paths towards a clear horizon, philosophical questions and a meaningful life have become more important than simply working on aspects of my sobriety, there is no news here.
What I found particularly interesting in pondering and researching and philosophizing was the concept of the First United Church of Cthulhu, which has an internet presence (www.fucc.it), and from the website you will surely see that is sees itself a blinking eye in terms of wanting to be a real religion.
What intrigued me, apart from the fact that the founder is an absolute RPG nerd and horror film freak, it the fact that he has a rather, let’s say, anarchistic approach to religion and the whole Cthulhu worshipping thing.
Am I praying to an indifferent, madness inducing, sleeping eternally, probably cataclysmic entity?
No, not really. What I find interesting here is the combination of mock-faith, literature and underlying philosophical implications.
These implications go like this: Cthulhu and all the other Old Ones and Outer Gods are indifferent to us humans, like the universe itself. So, Cthulhu doesn’t care if you worship him or not, or worship him and other deities, be it a Christian, a Muslim, a Jewish God, the Spaghetti Monster or the pantheon of Hindu gods. Consequently, if he doesn’t care, you are allowed to worship your “original god”, while worshipping (or not worshipping) Cthulhu. Plus, since we are not getting out of our existence alive, we might as well have fun. And the best thing: He doesn’t care (and so does the FUCC) if you are male, female, diverse, POC, No-POC, no matter what race, what origin, whatever. IT DOES NOT MATTER.
And that is what I find very heartwarming in a world, where dogma and suppression becomes stronger.
Why? Because it supports my feeling of being able to be self reliant and self effective in my system.
That’s basically what it is boiling down to.
Cthulhu fhtagn.
Keep up the faith in yourself and take one step at a time.
