The Clear Horizon

From oblivion of alcoholism into the light of sobriety

Welcome to Innsmouth

Should some things better remain in the deep…?

How could I dive practically deeper into self efficacy while at the same time utilize my love for Cosmic Horror in the most practical sense I can muster?

Yes, practical hobbies, the solitude of nature and being alone with my dark and gloomy thoughts at dawn in a murky forest at a nameless, deep, dark water…

And with all that, a good book accompanying my solitude.

What am I talking about?

Well, today I got my fishing license (which is mandatory in Germany if you want to go fishing).

Going into a couple of questions nobody asked, but I will answer them anyways:

  • Why is it a deep dive into self efficacy? – I planned on extending the range of my outdoors activities and skills, and after having become able to light a fire in the wild with tinder, magnesium fire steel and knife and bush crafting skills, fishing skills seemed like a good opportunity to widen my skillset. And learning to be self effective is, well, boosting self efficacy as well as it boosts self sufficiency (if necessary).
  • Why Cosmic Horror? – Well, just read a couple of Lovecraft’s stories, especially about Cthulhu, Dagon, Innsmouth and so forth and you will know… Plus: I just received a marvelous book I am going to read next: John Langan’s “The Fisherman”. If that doesn’t explain what fishing and Cosmic Horror have in common, I don’t know what.
  • What does solitude have to do with it? – Well, being in a dark wood near a mysterious dark and secluded lake at dawn alone sparks a lot of thoughts I will be able to toss, turn and roll. With the right activity (fishing, a good book, maybe a nice hot tea, or whatever else) will give me good opportunities to philosophically dive into my Core and the psychological rabbit hole in a truly Ligotti-esque manner.
  • Why practical? – All the Journaling RPG, reading, philosophizing, writing, musing is all the better with the practical effects of harvesting something truly eerie – a slippery, twitching, alien-esque deity like a trout, or a carp, or even a pike is binding all the Cosmic Horror with reality. – And it is delicious, too.

Until next time, keep up the faith in yourself and take one step at a time.
