I have been on medication for about a week now, and I have found several positive results, especially dealing with every day situations that would otherwise be running through my fingers like sand in a hand. That is a very big help for me.
Interestingly, these every day routines have mostly to do with my daily work, since the medication is meant to keep its effect through the daytime and it will wear off in the evening.
But what happens if I have free time and take medication? I made the experience that my thinking patterns focus on what my daily routine is governed by – social work.
That is interesting in so far, as it shows how much we are slave to our routines that give us security in action. This underpins my decision to taking medication, because when my mind isn’t obstructed by attention deficit, motivation dips and anxiety, I can direct the energy to new fields of learning.
I think that is meant by what my therapist pointed out: We won’t be healed by methylphenidate. But we get a breathing space, a rest and the headroom to rewire parts of our brains in the time we wear the corrective medication glasses to be focused and in turn use the free – or liberated – energy to focus it on productive new pattern and habit building.
Psychology and neuroplasticity is great!
Until next time, take one step at a time and keep up the faith in yourself.
