I listened to my favorite podcast today, and there was the question of regulating your nervous system in terms of winding down or generating emotional beneficial balance or avoiding bad feelings, your choice.
I think, for me, there are a few possibilities that work short term, some things that aren’t leading onto a good track and toxic regulations.
- short term: Quick fixes like breathing techniques, mantras, meditation, maybe sugar. That is always a quick relief to get the system into a situation, where rational thinking and action becomes possible again. This is, however, not a long term solution.
- These short term fixes hold the illusion in stock that they are a long term solution, but the problem is that I, for myself, would only relocate the pressure and the solution is only a pushing away of the original issue (like going on a long run to wind down and think it’ll always work and in the end I find myself in the dark pit nonetheless asking myself why.
- Toxic regulations: Empty dopamine, like substance abuse, gambling, buying happiness. This is a road to perdition.
So, in the end, I will have to deal with my ineptitudes, work on my deficits and accept that I am not perfect and prone to depressive and anxious feelings. The trick is to sustain these episodes and find measures to live with them and maybe find relieving solutions by working on it long term. The path to the clear horizon is infinite, so brace yourself for the path. The way is the goal.
Until next time, keep up the faith in yourself and take one step at a time.
