Yes, neurodiversity has a lot of niceties, if you can tap into the powerful upsides and know how to deal with the downsides.
One downside, however, is the lack of learning from experience like neuronormal people.
What do I mean? Imagine the cat touching the hotplate of a stove and it will remember never to touch it again.
Yes, of course, we learn from these things as well, but there are a lot of other things that we don’t easily learn from.
Anyways, the thing is, that we tend to act pretty much out of impulse. And the lack of dopamine is urging us to actions before thinking. Of course, that process is more difficult than this easy equation, but impulse and dopamine insufficiency plays a large role.
It also does in addiction patterns and anxiety/panic attacks.
To boil it down to a single point:
There are certain things to work on to get a grip on that problem:
- Working on trigger points: If we know the point at which we tend to be triggered, we can preemptively try to avoid or to delay the tipping point or get out of the situation before we get triggered.
- Dopamine control: Medication meditation, reflecting patterns are good measures
- Reframing: Rewiring motivation patterns through atomic habit change.
There are certainly more things to get into, but I think this is a good starting point.
Until next time, take one step at a time and keep up the faith in yourself
