Oh, he has cited another self optimization book…
I can only imagine the thoughts of some people judging me for using this kind of literature.
The problem with self optimization is certainly not self optimization in itself. I think (for myself! Everybody judge for themselves) that hyping self optimization on social media to tweak every single screw or mechanism in your body and psyche is pretty much impossible, ineffective and utter BS. I think most of the “influencers” that share their optimization hacks only want to sell you something or they want to generate clicks to suck your data into the void of the Cloud.
The criticism, however, that self optimization would only come down to social media or to make you a slave for a dysfunctional neo-liberal tech-slave capitalism is as wrong as hyping it until every atom in your body and mind is optimized to the max.
I think that, within reason (like almost everything, except alcohol for me) has benefits to you and yourself. Since I don’t want to sell anything or I want to tell you how to deal with your life, I think self optimization, like self-awareness, self-compassion, mindfulness, visualization, exercising, good sleep, building better habits,… (the list is individual and can be endless, but I am nearing the level of what I want to incorporate).
It helped. Am I sober? check. Am I less nervous and anxious? check, Have I abandoned doom scrolling? almost check. Am I more aware of myself and my self efficacy? double check.
So, I will proceed sensibly incorporating self optimization into MY life without promoting it too much on everyone else. What helps for me is not necessarily helpful for others.
Until then: Keep up the faith in yourself and take one step at a time.
